UCA’s management and personnel shall aim to follow this policy. Interested and third parties can use this policy as a guide.

This policy applies guiding principles for ICTs.

1. Where resources are allocated for processing equipment (both hardware and software with standard operating environment [SOE]) and supporting services (such as transport, communication or information systems).

2. Current platform combines open source products and propriety solutions that are closely integrated to provide a Software as a Solution (SAAS) solution to our customers. All designs include considerable opportunity for customer interaction with the site and community associated with the site. Specific customer solutions may at times adopt other architectures depending on the requirements and limitations imposed. Several customer-server solutions have been developed. All in-house development is done on the .NET platform using Structured Query Language (SQL) Server as the main data repository. A move towards Windows Azure platform for a flexible cloud-computing platform is anticipated in future development cycles due to the benefits of being able to scale rapidly as customer demands increase.

3. On the Website/s (www.uca.qld.edu.au):

(i)    UCA claims copyright ownership of all material on the website unless expressly stated otherwise. It is UCA policy to comply with copyright law. UCA’s personnel and customers shall find information on their copyright compliance obligations in our publications (Staff Guide, Staff Induction Program).

(a)   No part of the program nor the material contained in it may be copied (except as allowed by the copyright law of your country) or further disseminated without the express and written permission of UCA by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. UCA personnel or customers found to have intentionally or repeatedly violated the copyright rights of others may be denied access to UCA’s computing and networking facilities and resources. A person may be penalized under Australian law if copyright is breached.

(b)   UCA’s contact person for the purpose of receiving notifications from third parties in relation to content transmitted, cached, hosted or referred to on the website is the System Administrator who can be contacted by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

(c)   While UCA endeavours to provide accurate material on its website the material is provided "as-is" and UCA makes no representations about the suitability of this material for any purpose. UCA disclaims all warranties with regard to this material and there is no guarantee given as to the accuracy or currency of any individual item on the website. UCA does not accept responsibility for any damage or loss occasioned by the use of the material on the website nor from any access to the website. All access and use is at the risk of the user. UCA reserves the right to change, at any time without notice, any material on the website. Any information provided in relation to courses are an expression of interest only and are not to be taken as a firm course offering. Users should refer to originating/registration bodies for confirmation of the accuracy of material.

(ii)   Security for the Website/s

(a)   UCA recognises that the customer security and privacy concerns are important. Our e-commerce function is provided by PDITC. Our internet security can be checked via its encryption to protect the privacy of the customer’s credit card details during and after ordering.

i)      Before payment information entered on a PDITC iCommerce order page is transmitted across the internet, it is first encrypted by an extremely rigorous algorithm called RC4 128 bit (SSL v3.0) which is proven as secure for online shopping and e-commerce. This encryption method is actually more secure than providing the customer credit card number over the phone - something many of us do without hesitation.

ii)     PHDobson.com secures your personal information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. PHDobson.com secures the personally identifiable information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment, protected from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. When personal information (such as a credit card number) is transmitted to other Websites, it is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.

iii)    There are several indicators of a secure web page. The first is the http:// prefix on the URL. If this is present it indicates that the connection is secure and encrypted. The URL is visible in the address bar at the top of the customer browser.

iv)   The second indicator of a secure page depends on the customer browser. Most modern browsers (including Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox and Netscape) display a small padlock or key in a lower corner of the customer screen. When this is closed or highlighted, the page is secure. http://www.phdobson.com/dnn/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

v)    PDITC's digital key, required for secure web page encryption was provided by Thawte. Thawte performs a comprehensive background check on any company before issuing a digital key.

vi)   You can confirm the authenticity of our key by doing the following

a)    Microsoft Internet Explorer 3: From the file menu, select properties, then click on the security tab to bring up details of the digital ID.

b)    Microsoft Internet Explorer 4: Click on the gold padlock to bring up details of the digital ID.

c)    Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later: Double click on the gold padlock to bring up details of the digital ID.

d)    Netscape Navigator 3: Click on the gold key in the lower left corner and Show Document Info on the Security Information page. Under Certificate, view our Digital ID details.

e)    Netscape Communicator or Later: Click on the gold padlock in the lower left hand corner and the View Certificate button on the Security Information page.

f)     Firefox: Double click on the gold padlock in the lower left hand corner and the 'View' button on the Security Information panel.

vii)  Once sent to us the customer credit card number is stored in an encrypted format in a password protected area until processed and deleted.

viii) If you are still not comfortable sending the customer credit card details across the internet, you can fill out the customer details on the order page as normal, then on the final page print the order. Then you can fax the order to us with the customer credit card details written on, or phone us and make the customer order over the phone.

(iii)  Terms of Use for the Website/s includes eight sections: (i) the agreement between the User and UCA; (ii) modification of the Terms of Use; (iii) links to third party sites; (iv) no-unlawful or prohibited use; (v) materials provided to UCA or posted at any UCA website; (vi) liability disclaimer; (vii) service contact; and (viii) termination/access restriction (Glossary, Website/s).

This policy commitment for management, personnel (employed staff & sub-contracted suppliers), customers (students), interested parties (visitors) and third parties (accredited conformity and government assessment body representatives) is essential.
