Recreational Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a fun sport for everyone!
The AAG have recreational classes for all ages and skill levels based on Artistic Gymnastics and Tumbling, with opportunities to progress to competitive classes. Children undergo an assessment period closer to the end of each term to determine their level of achievement. This process also assists in identifying when a child is competent, and can perform the set skills required of them for that program safely enough to move up to the next grade, level, or into another program i.e. our development squads or a competitive program.

Recreational Gymnastics

CLASS ONE (BEGINNER RECREATIONAL)
This program is for those at ‘school age’ (from 5 years), that are new to the world of gymnastics, or are of a beginner entrant level. Classes focus on skill sets for the specific Men’s and Women’s Apparatus. The apparatus used in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics are the Beam, Vault, Uneven bars and the floor. Apparatus used in Men’s Artistic gymnastics are the Pommel Horse, Rings, Parallel Bars, High Bar, Vault and the Floor.  This class is designed to develop associated strengths and skills and can be attended by girls/boys in addition to other recreational classes or as their one weekly gymnastics session.
The Girls and Boys Recreational class also provides the opportunity for gymnasts showing promise and commitment to be offered positions in the development squad or competitive class to further develop their skills.

This program becomes an hour and a half long in duration which allows extra time to work on strength and flexibility.

CLASS THREE (ADVANCED RECREATIONAL)
The Advanced Recreational Program (Class 3) is an extension to the beginner (Class 1) and intermediate rec (Class 2) programs, which aims to equip recreational children with the essential fundamentals in the lead in to competitive gymnastics. This program starts to hone in on the more advanced skill sets of our recreational based program and becomes a 2 hour program. This allows for more specific men’s or women’s apparatus time to develop a higher understanding of appropriate gymnastics technique in acquiring harder skills. Children are challenged each week with an aim of improving on the coordination of connecting skills together. Children progressing quickly, to which demonstrate competence, may be offered a spot in our competitive program or later decide to take up our teenage class programming.

TEEN GYMNASTICS (13 YEARS +)

Option 1: “Mean Teenz” – (Tuesdays from 6:30-8pm)
Option 1 will be a revised program whereby teenagers from 12yrs and up, can come and learn specific targeted gymnastics skills. Teens will have a set selection of skills to which they can choose which skills they would like to work on. Anything from forward rolls to back somersaults, swings to walk overs. This class provides structure for learning but gives teens the opportunity to work on skills they really want to learn and at their own learning pace. Mean Teenz will be a 1.5hour program and will follow a set warm up and body conditioning/strength session and conclude with a controlled cool down.

Option 2: “XtremeTeenz” – (Fridays from 5:30-7:30pm)
Option 2 will be class that emphasises on the fun and social aspects that gymnastics can offer. In this class teens will have the opportunity to enjoy all of the equipment in the gym. This class will have 1.5 hours of activity in the gym and will conclude with 30mins at the end to socialise and have dinner and drinks together. This class will have a structured warm up and strength session and have the opportunity to work on gymnastics skills on each apparatus. A great way to mark the end of the week, teens can come together and have fun indoors in a safe environment and socialise through activity where they can meet new people. Dinner and drinks included in term fee cost each week.
